WHEREAS the success of Colorado Mesa University depends on the collection of individual moments where faculty and staff members go the extra mile to break down barriers, establish human connections and help others with solving problems; AND
WHEREAS a central feature of Colorado Mesa University’s success as a human scale university is our commitment to small class sizes and highly qualified faculty members who focus on teaching; AND
WHEREAS Colorado Mesa University serves a diverse student body including first-generation students, low-income students, and non-traditional students; AND
WHEREAS faculty members at Colorado Mesa University carry a full load including teaching, advising, scholarly activity and service; AND
WHEREAS both the Colorado Mesa University administration and the Board of Trustees value the culture of servant leadership across the campus; AND
WHEREAS Colorado Mesa University serves the region and the entire State of Colorado with unique expertise, experience, and the ability to contribute towards solving complex social problems; AND
WHEREAS Associate Professor of Kinesiology, Dr. Elizabeth Sharp, Ph.D. has helped develop a robust physical education teaching program which allows students to hone their skills through hands-on experience and serves the broader community by providing a longstanding physical education program for homeschool children; AND
WHEREAS Dr. Sharp has freely given of her time and expertise to serve on multiple boards including the Board of Directors for SHAPE (Society of Health and Physical Educators) where she recently advocated at the national level for quality health and physical education; AND
WHEREAS Dr. Sharp has openly shared about her personal experiences and exemplifies the boldness of resiliency in the face of adversity and how each of us can use our unique experiences, skills, and knowledge to teach, mentor and impact those around us
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES hereby awards the March 2023 Human Scale University Champion award to, Associate Professor of Kinesiology, Dr. Elizabeth Sharp.
The entire University wishes to thank Dr. Sharp for setting an example of tireless work and dedication to help our community, region, state, and nation learn about and appreciate lifelong learning and movement.
